Activities

  • Research topics:
    -  Medium range order in oxide glasses; relationship with physical properties: thermodynamics, ionic conduction, glass coloration.
    Nucleation and crystallization in glasses
    -  Structural modifications at the glass transition and in the liquid state.
    -  High pressure transformations of glasses: polyamorphism.
  • Experimental tools:
    -  Neutron spallation sources: ISIS (Didcot, UK), IPNS (Argonne, USA);
    -  High Flux neutron reactors: ILL (Grenoble, France), LLB (Saclay, France);
    -  Synchrotron sources: ESRF (Grenoble, France), SOLEIL (Saclay, France), APS (Argonne, USA), SLS (Willigen, Switzerland), ELETTRA (Trieste, Italy), LURE (Orsay, France). X-ray absorption (XANES and EXAFS) at ambient and high pressure/temperature; x-ray diffraction and anomalous diffraction.
    -  Laboratory instruments: responsible for the short wavelength diffractometer (Mo tube) at IMPMC: commissioning and data inversion codes.
  • Simulation tools:
    Reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) and Empirical Potential Structure Refinement (EPSR) for generating 3D models for amorphous solids.
    -  Molecular Dynamics (DlPoly).
    -  Ab initio simulation of XANES and EXAFS spectra including multiple scattering: FEFF8
