Research
My principal
research interests are focused on correlated electron materials which display
remarkable electronic phase
transitions, such as superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions and complex
charge, spin and orbital orderings.
The
research methods used in our group include new materials synthesis (especially
under very high pressure),
assisted by ab initio calculations of the electronic structure, and the
study of the structural, electronic and magnetic
properties of the most promising compounds synthesized.
We have
been recently working on the following subjects:
- Superconductivity
in graphite intercalated compounds;
- Mott
metal-insulator transition in transition metal sulphides;
- Charge,
spin and orbital orderings and Verwey transition in mixed valence transition
metal oxides
- Phonon
instabilities in cuprate superconductors.
