Résumé
Since 1996, my research has been at the crossroads of informatics, mathematics, physics, and biology, with a focus on designing and implementing algorithms for biomedical signal and image processing. My early work (1996–1999, University of Belgrade, Serbia) centered on biomechanics modeling and signal processing for the control of walking in paraplegic subjects. The focus of my research shifted to multidimensional biomedical data processing during my PhD (1999–2003, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne – EPFL, Switzerland), where I developed image processing algorithms for computer-assisted surgery and structural biology.
From 2004 to 2008, during my postdoctoral training at the University Pierre and Marie Curie (currently known as Sorbonne University), in Paris (France), I specialized in electron microscopy image processing for three-dimensional reconstruction of biological macromolecular complexes. In 2008, I joined the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) as a tenured Research Scientist. I obtained my Research Director Habilitation from the Life Sciences Department of the University Pierre and Marie Curie in 2015, and in 2019 I was appointed CNRS Research Director.
Currently, I lead a research team at Sorbonne University dedicated to developing algorithms and software that integrate image analysis, molecular dynamics simulations, and artificial intelligence to enable comprehensive exploration of biomolecular conformational dynamics by in vitro and in situ cryo electron microscopy and cryo electron tomography. These methods are applied to the study of biomedically important molecular complexes in close collaboration with experimentalists.
